Serenity House Guiding Principles
Serenity House promotes safety, security, serenity and sobriety for each of our guests. Our guests will work full or part-time jobs, do volunteer work, or attend school, while meeting the expectations of Serenity House. These guidelines are in place to ensure that our guests have the necessary support to flourish in recovery. Below are some of the principles governing our rules and expectations:
Total abstinence from alcohol, drugs, narcotic medications and mood altering substances is essential and is a non-negotiable condition for being a guest at Serenity House
Guests participate in random alcohol and drug testing and random room searches to ensure the safety of all house guests
Attendance at the weekly in house 12 step recovery meeting, the weekly house meeting, and 3-7 external in-person 12-step-recovery meetings (based on length of sobriety) is an expected commitment to support every guest’s successful recovery
Employment/search, volunteer work, or enrollment in school are required to maintain structure and foster growth and development
Guests practice independent living by purchasing their own food and cooking their own meals.
Compliance with curfews (10:00 pm Sunday-Thursday and 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday) to practice self-care, consideration of others, and support recovery are strictly enforced.
Guests are responsible for keeping their rooms clean and completing assigned house chores as keeping a quality home contributes to the self-esteem of all and practices helpful life skills.
Guests will find/have a Sponsor with whom regular meetings are held. Having someone to guide a guest through the 12 steps is a crucial part of recovery. This support person will likely provide a sounding board for constructive concerns and safe guidance in the principles of the program.
